We Do Not Know, Yet We Know!

Have you been in situations that you didn’t know what was the best option forward, what to do next and therefore what to pray for? We often go through life and realise our wisdom and knowledge and smarts is not going to cut it for the situations and forks in the road that are facing us. We can feel confused, weak and baffled. Which path do I take? Which is the way that is best for me? How do you move out of the fog and into clarity? Often when we do not know what to do and what to pray for, we can go to Someone Who Knows! Someone who knows what is best for us from the myriad options before us. Our God knows what is best for us and He can clear the fog and confusion and guide us through a clear way for us and work it all out for good!

Kind David faced this kind of baffling situation. He desperately wanted to know what God’s will for Him was as He wanted to walk in God’s ways. He wanted to be guided by God’s truth and so He seeks God by positioning his heart in humility and remaining teachable. David knew God was his Savior and that He could place his trust and hope in the One who knew what was best for him and could lead him down the right path! He was praying to be out of the fog and into clarity!
Psalm 25:4-5, 8-9
Show me your ways, Lord,
    teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

Paul wrote to the Roman church encouraging them and explaining to them that they were not alone in facing situations that perplexed them. He reminded them that the Holy Spirit intercedes for them to help them when they are weak and confused and when they were not even able to articulate to God clearly what to do or even how to pray for! The Holy Spirit is able to take our groans and moans and even use these utterings and prayers in our spiritual language as prayers led by the Spirit to seek and clarify God’s will for us!

Like David, we need to align our hearts and minds in seeking God and having a deep desire for His ways. When we do this, God the Father who searches our hearts and knows the mind of the Spirit who prays God’s will through our groanings is able to lead us to the clarity of God’s will for us! How amazing is that!
Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

David experienced God removing the fog of confusion and clarifying the way forward for him. He testifies of how good and upright God is in providing guidance to the humble! When we do not know, God knows! God knows how to weave the decisions and steps we take out of the confusion and fog in the best way that will bring glory to God and work in the best way possible for us too! As we go through life’s baffling situations, we need to keep holding onto wanting to please God and glorifying Him even through our moanings, groanings and prayers!
Psalm 25:8-9
Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
    and teaches them his way.

Romans 8:28
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Are you facing a baffling situation where you don’t know what decision to make and what path to take? Are you moaning and groaning due to the fog and bewildering situation you are in and the way out is not yet clear? Don’t despair. Though you don’t know all the specific details of what you need to do yet, the Holy Spirit knows exactly what you should do! He is waiting to guide you, teach you, direct you and bring you clarity! Cry out to Him with or without words but stay focused on Him to bring you the answers. The Holy Spirit will take your utterances and weave it as prayers to bring you clarity before our God! Out of the fog and into clarity indeed!
Isaiah 48:17
17 This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go.
